preemptiveforgiveness: (Phone call)
It's almost a surprise the day Matt wakes up in his own bed in his own loft with the sounds of New York City outside his window. It takes him days to adjust and even longer to absorb that not one damn day had passed here while he'd been in the Complex. He's still got all those memories though, the way he'd had all those glitches from this life when he'd been in the Complex. He remembers Lydia, remembers how he'd felt about her (how he still feels) and remembers that promise that he'd try to find her when they got home.

It would be more romantic if he were to say that finding her had been the first thing he had done, but it's not. Instead, he settles back into his life, tries to repair things with Foggy and with Karen, deals with the fallout of the life he'd left behind. It a few months after that first morning that he looks her up. It's not hard given all that he knows about her. Once he locates Beacon Hills, finding Lydia is easy. There are many ways he could contact her. He's got a program that he can dictate an email to or he could text her. He could even get someone to write a letter. Instead, he calls one afternoon unsure if she'll even answer, uncertain that it's even her phone number. His heart pounds double time as the phone rings and for a moment, he thinks he's going to pass out before she finally answers. He sits down hard on his couch, forgoing the usual pacing he does.

"Lydia? It's Matthew Murdock...this might sound crazy, but do you remember me?"

You know, the only thing I remember from Sunday school is the martyrs... the saints, the saviors... they all end up the same way. Bloody and alone.
